National Youth Council Features OOm’s Melvin Fam In “A Day In The Life Of An SEO Specialist”

In an ongoing effort to highlight occupations that inspire youths in Singapore, the National Youth Council (NYC) has been giving viewers an intimate look into the daily lives of different professionals, ranging from lawyers to journalists and even pastry chefs. 

 

OOm Pte Ltd is pleased to announce that our very own Head of Department (HOD) of the search engine optimisation (SEO) team, Melvin Fam, has been featured in an all-new video in NYC’s “On My Way!” series. 

 

 

Titled “A Day in the Life of an SEO Specialist”, Melvin addressed a common misconception that SEO is a scam and shared more about what working in an SEO company in Singapore entails. 

 

He went in-depth about his job scope as an SEO specialist whose primary focus is on keyword optimisation, which includes improving content, user interface, website architecture, and considering ways to help build links to improve a website’s authority. All of these essentially aims to help his clients appear on the first page of search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, and Baidu to meet their objectives; be it to increase conversions or raise awareness about a new service or product. 

 

Analysing performances on search engines, doing preparation works and research, updating clients on the progress through meetings, and partaking in internal meetings to brainstorm the most suitable strategies are some of the things Melvin does on a daily basis while working in an SEO agency.

 

Melvin also touched on the distinction between search engine optimisation (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM), as these are two completely different services that many tend to be confused with. The former’s goal is to improve the website’s organic search traffic while the latter utilises paid advertisements. 

 

Before rounding up the video, Melvin provided some advice as an experienced SEO specialist working in an SEO company that will be useful for the youths who are interested in this career path. 

 

He mentioned the need to possess knowledge on using SEO tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics, as well as having a good understanding of how search engine algorithms work. Another necessary skill is the ability to analyse data and present it in layman terms. It is also important to listen to what the clients hope to achieve and keep an open mind so as to attain the best results together.
