Performance Max (Pmax) is a powerful new advertising campaign type from Google that replaces both Smart Shopping and Local campaigns. With Pmax, users can enjoy all of the same foundational features they already have with Smart Shopping and Local campaigns, and also access to new inventory and automation insights, all from a single, comprehensive campaign. This allows advertisers to optimise their ad performance in a more streamlined and efficient way, ultimately leading to better results and a higher return on investment.
Smart Shopping ads can only be displayed on Search, 3P Display, and O&O Display channels, such as Gmail and YouTube. However, Performance Max enhances the reach and conversion potential of these campaigns by adding Discover, YouTube In-stream, and Maps channels. This expansion also opens up opportunities to target new customer groups. In Smart Shopping Campaigns, budgets were frequently allocated separately by network or objective. However, Performance Max allows for budget aggregation across multiple inventories, enabling them to be shared among different objectives. This feature leads to better overall performance by optimising budget allocation and improving the effectiveness of each campaign.
Performance Max asset requirements includes a maximum of 15 images, 5 logos, headlines, long headlines, and descriptions for optimization across all channels. Its machine learning systems automatically serve responsive ads with Smart Bidding based on preset goals.
